The Tall Ship festivities will kick off this weekend. In the past weeks the organizers were served with a “Cease and Desist order” to stop using the term “Tall Ships” according to those that own the license to that term. The American Sail Training Association (ATSA) charges that the Piscataqua Maritime Commission who hosts the Portsmouth Tall Ship Festival is infringing on the ASTA registered trademark. With all the marketing materials complete for the event, and the fact that the media just can’t control themselves, “Tall Ships” will ring for some time to come.
Four ships docked at 550 Market street this morning and will be on display through the weekend.
- U.S. Coast Guard Barque Eagle, one of the world’s largest tall ships,
- Spirit of Massachusetts
- Spirit of South Carolina
- Kalmar Nyck
