Police Arrest 10 for Drug and Alcohol Violations this Weekend

Londonderry Police, along with assistance from New Hampshire State Police, made several drug and alcohol related arrests over this past weekend. Many of these arrests stem from a sobriety checkpoint conducted on Friday, August, 19, 2011, though some arrests were not a result of the checkpoint. The checkpoint was held on Nashua Road, most likely at the Derry Plaza.

The arrests began Friday night at about 10:37 PM. Police initiated a motor vehicle stop on Buttrick Road and arrested 52-year-old Cary Taylor of Londonderry. He was charged with Driving Under the Influence of Drugs or Liquor and a Stop Sign/Yield Sign Violation. He was held on $1,000 personal recognizance bail and is scheduled to be arraigned in Derry District Court on September 19, 2011.

Seven more were arrested as a result of the checkpoint. Those arrested include Matt Sheehan, 45 of North Chelmsford, Massachusetts, for Driving While Intoxicated; Jennifer Clark, 19 of Manchester, for Underage Driving While Intoxicated; John Crowley, 33 of Everett, Massachusetts, for Driving While Intoxicated; and Gabriel Nunez, 19 of Derry, for Underage Driving While Intoxicated and Transporting a Controlled Drug. No court or bail information was provided for these arrests.

The remaining three checkpoint arrests were Joshua McLynch, age 25 of Derry, for Possession of Narcotics, Possession of a Controlled Drug, and Transporting a Controlled Drug. His bail was set at $5,000 personal recognizance, and he is scheduled to appear in Derry District Court on September 15, 2011. Jason Ralph, age 23 of Derry, was charged with Possession of a Controlled Drug. His bail was set at $2,000 personal recognizance and he will appear in Derry District Court on September 15, 2011.

Melissa Smith, 33 of Methuen, Massachusetts, was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Possession of a Controlled Drug, and Possession an Open Container of Alcohol. She was held on $2,500 personal recognizance bail and will appear in Derry District Court on September 19, 2011.

While police were conducting the checkpoint on Nashua Road, an arrest was also made on Rockingham Road at midnight on August 20, 2011. Londonderry police stopped a vehicle and subsequently arrested Raymond Lemay, age 41 of Hall Road in town. Lemay was charged with Driving Under the Influence and was held on $1,000 personal recognizance bail. He is scheduled to appear in Derry District Court on September 19, 2011.

Early morning, August 21, 2011, police made a motor vehicle stop near the intersection of Rockingham Road and Sanborn Road. The driver, 30-year-old Rafael Correa, was arrested and charged with Driving Under the Influence, a Yellow Line violation, and Following too Closely. Correa was held on $1,000 personal recognizance bail. He is scheduled to appear in Derry District Court on September 19, 2011.

Colonel Robert Quinn of the New Hampshire State Police and Chief William Hart of the Londonderry Police and the officers of their departments consider the detection and apprehension of impaired drivers to be a priority of their departments. They will continue to collaborate and utilize sobriety checkpoints and other means to deter, detect and remove impaired drivers from New Hampshire’s roadways.
