Lasko Fans Recalled for Potential Fire Hazard

The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (USCPSC), in cooperation with Lasko Products Inc., has issued a recall for box fans. Consumers should stop using the product immediately unless otherwise instructed. The CPSC would like to remind consumers that it is illegal to resell or attempt to resell products that have been recalled.

About 4.8 million box fans, manufactured by Lasko Products Inc. of West Chester, Pennsylvania, are being recalled. The fans pose a potential fire hazard due to an electrical failure in the fan’s motor. Lasko has received seven reports of fires associated with the motor, including two house fires and one barn fire, that resulted in extensive property damage. No injuries have been reported.

The recall includes Lasko fans with model numbers 3720, 3723, and 3733, as well as Galaxy fans with model number 4733 that have a date code of “2002-03″ or “2003-04″ stamped on the bottom of the metal frame. “Lasko” or “Galaxy” are stamped on the front of the fan and the model number is either stamped or printed on the bottom of the fans. The fans involved in the recall were sold at mass merchandisers from July 2002 through December 2005 for between $12 and $25.

Consumers should stop using the recalled fans immediately and contact Lasko for a free fused plug safety adapter. Lasko can be contacted at 877-445-1314 anytime or visit Lasko’s website. To see this recall on the USCPSC website, click here.
