Citizen journalists

The nature of Londonderry NH net is to provide a forum so residents can tell their own stories, upload and display photographs. To that end, citizen journalists must prepare their copy within the same legal boundaries as professional journalists and are subject to the same libel laws as professional journalists. There are numerous reference works about libel law in print on the Web that citizen journalists can consult if they have questions.

In general, libel is injury to reputation. The Associated Press libel manual says, “Words, pictures or cartoon that expose a person to public hatred, shame, disgrace or ridicule, or induce an ill opinion of a person are libelous.
“Actions for civil libel result mainly in stories that allege crime, fraud, dishonesty, immoral or dishonorable conduct, or stories that defame the subject professionally, causing financial loss either personal or to a business.”
There is only one complete and unconditional defense to civil action for libel. That defense is that the facts in the story are provably true.

The AP libel manual also points out:
“The publication of defamatory matter that consists of comment and opinion, as distinguished from fact, with reference to matters of public interest or importance, is covered by the defense of fair comment as long as the facts stated are true.
“Everyone has the right to comment on matters of public interest and concern, provided they do so fairly and with an honest purpose. Such comments or criticism are not libelous, however severe in their terms, unless they are written maliciously.”

Posts that are in all capital letters, have an inordinate number of errors, have errors in fact could be removed. Posts that are potentially libelous, off-topic, inflammatory, personal attacks or otherwise inappropriate will be removed. Repeat offenders will be prohibited from commenting. Those who find such a comment should report it to the site editor.

I was told that you had a website for Londonderry and after taking a few minutes to check it out, I think it is really great. I am glad that I was informed.

My son placed 1st for Londonderry in the Championship race and I was asked to forward along a photo of the LMS boys Cross-Country team. Unfortunately, this is the best I could come up with, but it does have the Top 7 runners at the starting line. These were the individuals that competed in Championship race.

Could you please inform me as to how I can forward a photo along to you.

    Thanks ~ Kim Winn

I too thought it was typical that the candidates were on their cell phones or chatting with people they “knew” instead of greeting and thanking those of us who took the time to vote. This is precisely why we don’t have the voter turnout Londonderry should have. Hopefully, we can get some new and fresh citizens involved in the elections and decision making for Londonderry and the state of New Hampshire.

I am searching for Arthur Chagnon, an Army buddy. I saw on the web that an Arthur Chagnon had passed away in Rockingham Co. on 31 Jan 2009. Where can I find the obituary for this Arthur Chagnon?
    Thank you very much.

Hi what is the pick up schedule for trash ?

    Thank you.

You can always find the Trash Pickup info in our Breaking News Box on the upper right column of the page. Today Feb 15, 2010 it is normal no holiday for “robo trash” or recycling. Schools are open, Town Hall is closed.

I would love to know if you have, or know where I can see some pictures of the old Crossroads Market, perhaps from the 70′s.

    Thanks!

Can someone please explain to me what is being built off Exit 4 in Londonderry behind the car auction lot?

Happy to help but we need more detail. To the south would be the Derry (also services Londonderry) Sewage plant. South of that is the old dump.

I agree with Tina Fallon …I to wish I could make 33k on overtime in a year…usually in hard times overtime is the first to go then jobs. Do people realize our economy is in crisis …when you have to cut back on food to buy gas to get to work and fuel to keep your family warm…I don’t know about anyone else but I was brought up that when times are tough you cut back….
I am a lifelong resident of Londonderry and we all need to work together to make this a place we can stay.

Donna not in this town we spend more when times are tough. Budget cuts should have taken place 3 years ago instead the just took money from various accounts and did not make the real cuts. Keep in mind the town council has no say in the budget it is all up to the town manager and look at his nice fat salary and perks. If he lived in town like other town managers in the past we would not be paying him to travel from Gilford to Londonderry. Town council throwing our money around like water.

Who was the genius that thought that three hours for trick or treating was better then the two hours we used to have?

Anyone know the phone number to contact Londonderry News?

    Thanks!
