Londonderry Deer Season Opens Today

Lot’s of activity in the police logs on cars parked along the side of the roadway, and shots fired throughout town.  Why not!  Londonderry is a great place to hunt with thousands of acres of open passive recreation land public and private with most of it not posted throughout town.

Muzzle loader season just wrapped up yesterday on November 10th, in Londonderry those hunters have been out since October 31st.  Youth had a special opportunity to get out and hunt on October 24th and 25th this year.  While we have no numbers for Londonderry, “This year’s preliminary state total was nearly the same as in 2008, when 341 deer were taken during the youth hunt.”, according to Kent Gustafson, the Deer Project Leader for the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department.

The youth hunt is for hunters under 16 that have a licensed hunter with them over age 18.

Deer season in Londonderry is November 11th through December 6th for 2009

Whether you’re hunting, hiking or out for a stroll with the dog, put on an item of highly visible blaze orange clothing when you’re out enjoying the great outdoors this time of year. Be aware of hunting seasons and prepare to share the woods. To make sure you can be seen, hunters and other outdoor enthusiasts should wear a fluorescent orange hat, vest or jacket. Consider decking the dog out with a colorful bandana.

To play it safe, put on the orange!
