Bonfire Tonight at Mack’s Apples!

Fritters Today!

Looking for a nice day out in the country?  Possibly you have a little “Spring Fever” with all this warm weather?

Andy Mack Jr. has cooked something up for you today.  Apple Fritters at the farm stand on Mammoth road all to benefit Warm homes!  This event kicks off from 1 to 4 pm at the Farm Market, the farm fresh apples from Londonderry orchards will be taken directly from the climate controlled storage room and made into apple fritters as you watch.

Host Brian Battle from 106.3 Frank FM will have the station at the farmstand broadcasting Live from Londonderry.  If you are looking for a country drive the farm and historic Londonderry is just 15 minutes from the Massachusetts boarder and only 45 miles from the center of Boston.  The trails are open too with some spectacular views of the wetlands, and Adams Pond with it’s dramatic (at least with all this rain it is!) waterfall on the connector trail between two orchards.  If you do want to hike, bring some good Gortex boots, it’s mud season.

Or just browse the stand and enjoy the Fritters to benefit Warm Homes.  This program helps 60 to 80 families each year in Londonderry providing a one time delivery of heating fuel.  The program runs with volunteer help and 100% of the Warm Homes donations go directly to fuel that is delivered to the heating fuel tank of those in need.  No middle men, no management fees, no paid directors.

In case you missed it…

  • Farm Fresh Fritters from 1pm to 4pm
  • Today March 20th
  • At Mack’s Apple Farm Stand on Mammoth Road

The concept is a little like like the farm fresh apples you can pick up today at Mack’s Apples, no middle men fresh from last years crop.

Andy Mack Jr. was excited at sunrise this morning!  “12 hours ’til we light the bonfire! We’re also cookin’ up apple fritters today from 1-4 at our store as a fundraiser for Warm Homes.” he said in the social media outlet twitter.  If you live in the region drive over from Nashua, Manchester or up from Salem to enjoy one of the largest bonfires you will see.  Down by the pond on the west side of the road just near the farm stand.  Please stay off the fields with your cars and trucks, it gets rather soft this time of year.

14th Annual Christmas Tree Burn

As residents of Londonderry prepare to enter the year of 2010, the Boy Scouts would like to invite everyone to the annual tree burning. The Tree Burn, now in it’s 14th year running, will be held on Saturday, January 2nd. Residents are asked to drop off their old Christmas trees at Mack’s Moose Hill Apple Orchard. Drop offs will be accepted from 9 AM until 4 PM on Saturday. The trees will be set ablaze at about 5 PM at the Moose Hill Orchard.

Snacks will be available for purchase to those who attend, and will include chili, hot dogs, and hot chocolate. Sledding and other winter activities will be held throughout the day.

The Londonderry Boy Scout Troop 521 will be hosting this year’s Tree Burn. While not required, it is requested a small compensation be made for their hard work. They will be unloading the trees from cars and stacking them into a mountain. Proceeds will benefit the Boy Scout Troop and will be helpful towards the Troop’s events throughout the year.

The Tree Burn has been successful for many years. In 2008, approximately 500 trees were burned. According to committee chair, Kimberly Herrera, “Last year we burned somewhere between 200 and 400 trees.”

If you are unable to bring the tree to the Orchard yourself, arrangements can be made for a pick up. Please call Steve Dente at 234-5682 to make such arrangements.

The pictures featured in this article are from the 2008 Christmas Tree Burn. To view more of the pictures taken from the Tree Burn, visit our 2008 Christmas Tree Burn Album. Warm Homes Bonfire By Mack’s Apples this weekend

Huge Londonderry Bonfire Sunday Night at 6!

With temps in the 50′s and the leftover hurricane rains rolling through Londonderry a bonfire would be nice tonight if you could just find a place to get warm and dry.  Normally the annual bonfire to benefit warm homes would be held on this Saturday night.  To see if attendance could be increased organizers moved it to Sunday night this year.

Warm Homes 2009 Bonfire sponsored by Mack's Apples Sunday 11/15 at 6pm

Mack’s apples is not only providing the fuel this year they are managing the event with promotion and staffing.  Scaled back from other years, the event is still a great time to get outside with the family.  It starts at 6pm, and by the hand painted sign it looks like they will have cider and donuts, or cider donuts hard to tell with the sign.  Be sure to bring some money to drop in the warm homes can the donations will keep your neighbors here in Londonderry warm all winter!

Temps are expected to be at 65 degrees when the fire is lit off at 6pm, last year temps were in the 20′s with a north west wind of about 25 gusting to 35!  Should be a pleasent night out for young and old.

Held near the pond back behind the barn on the dirt road to Mack’s U-Pick one near the trail head to the Adams Pond trail.  If you get there late, you can’t miss it, the pile is about 20 feet tall, the fire should be 80 feet or so in the air!

This is one of the largest bonfires we have ever seen in New England.  If you are nearby come on over and enjoy some fun around the fire.
