Operator Drives Blind on 93

Police Log for 07/15/10 – 07/21/10

During this week of police logs, Londonderry Police assisted New Hampshire State Police on more than one occasion. The first happened on July 17, at about 9:09 AM, NHSP asked Londonderry officers to check a royal blue pick up truck. According to the log, the “operator is driving with his eyes closed.”

Londonderry Police also assisted State Police earlier in the morning on July 17. At about 12:52 AM, officers helped NHSP with a “Felony Stop and provided backup for their subsequent on-scene investigation.” Prior to the stop, the Carroll Police Department put out a BOLO on a green, 1999 Saab 93. The vehicle had reportedly left the Twin Mountain area, traveling to Derry, with two males and one female inside. Carroll Police were requesting “a stop and hold, the subjects in the vehicle threatened someone with a loaded glock.”

After following a car straddling two lanes, Sergeant Adam Dyer stopped a motor vehicle on Nashua Road about about 1:35 AM on July 18. Assisted by Officer Nicholas Pinardi, Dyer made two arrests that night. The passenger was arrested first, cooperated with police, and was charged with underage drinking. The driver, however, began fighting with the officers, using techniques that are common to ground fighting and Mixed Martial Arts. After a long struggle, in which officers were fighting with the young man on the ground, hitting him with a baton, and threatening the use of pepper spray, the young man was taken into custody. Two Domestics End in 3 Arrests Last Week

Police Log for 06/24/10 – 06/30/10

Police received a phone call, at about 1:23 PM on June 29, stating that there was a woman out of control in Londonderry. The caller reported that “there is someone sitting on her inside the trailer.” It was determined that the woman was being sat on by her brother. The Londonderry Fire Department arrived to transport the woman to the hospital, as she was not taking her medication properly.

A woman entered the Londonderry Police Department at about 6:02 PM on June 25, to file a complaint about damage done to her car. According to the Police Logs, the woman demanded to speak to the Sergeant in charge. The dispatcher explained that sector cars take reports for crimes. “She demanded the Sergeant come in and speak to her and asked if I was going to make her wait a few hours before he actually came in, and who the Sergeant was,” said the Dispatcher. The woman was advised that Sergeant Kearney was the Sergeant and that the Dispatcher would not make her wait several hours. The Dispatcher finished the report with, “Comp made a few other snide comments, to which I responded I did not like being disrespected when I was trying to help her. Sergeant Kearney was advised.”

On June 24, within 5 minutes from each other, two domestic disturbances broke out in town, resulting in the arrests of 3 Londonderry residents. The first, on Nashua Road, began at about 6:30 that evening. William Haley was arrested and charged with Criminal Mischief (Vandalism), and Joyce Tarabelli was arrested and charged with Simple Assault. At 6:35 PM, a woman called 911 from Clark Road, reporting that her 21 year old step son was assaulting her. The 911 operator connected her to Londonderry Police, and the woman asked for a restraining order against the young man. The report indicates that “while on the phone, step-son got into his vehicle and started to try to drive into them.” Officers arrested Daniel Ranberg, and he was charged with Simple Assault, Obstructing Report of Crime or Injury, Resisting Arrest of Detention, and 2 counts of Reckless Conduct; Place Another in Danger.

Would You Like to Super Size That Arrest?

Police Log for 06/10/10 – 06/16/10

Several arrests were made in Londonderry this week. One of those arrests was from an incident that occurred in the McDonalds Drive Thru in May. On the 21st of May, Officer Mottram and Officer King were dispatched at about 1:45 AM to the McDonalds on Route 102. They arrived and were waved inside by an employee. The employee told officers that “they were still in the drive-thru.” As Officer King approached the drive thru, he could hear male and female voices yelling. The female was yelling, “Do you guys think this is funny? You think it’s funny to take my food.” Officer King stated that he could hear the voices “well before I came to the corner of the building and observed that the yelling was far louder than appropriate for where we were.” Officers spoke with both suspects, who admitted to being loud and angry before police arrived. Verbal and written statements from three witnesses on scene also verified that both “were yelling and swearing for several minutes,” even after being asked to stop by a witness. Kendra Lefave was taken into custody for Disorderly Conduct on June 14 at 8:25 PM. Salvatore Pennellatore was also arrested. Both have been released on personal recognizance bail and have court dates in Derry on July 6.

June 15th was a busy day for Police and Fire in Londonderry, the fire department was out 22 times for the shift on what they considered major issues.  A MVA on high range and a Motorcycle Crash by two bikes and riders at Sherwood were captured by our photographer Cory Nader.

On June 16, at 4:31 AM, an arrest was made on Hall Road. James Pincence was arrested for several charges, including Criminal Threatening and Possessing a Loaded Firearm in a Vehicle. The arrest came after his truck was about to be repossessed. To read more about this incident, go to Operation Repo Has Nothing on Londonderry Repo. Be sure to listen to the live audio!

Thanks to an observant resident, two were arrested on June 13 for drug charges. On Ridgemont Drive, this caller had noticed in the past the same vehicle would park at the cul-de-sac, a person would exit the woods, approach the vehicle and they would pass things back and forth. This time, the vehicle parked and four to five people exited and entered the woods. Police responded immediately and were soon on foot pursuit of four suspects. Two managed to escape, but two were arrested. A juvenile was arrested for Resisting Arrest or Detention and Possession of Controlled/Narcotic Drugs. The other young man, 19 year old Aaron Sturup was charged with Resisting Arrest or Detention. Be sure to read Londonderry Resident Aids Police in Drug Bust. Listen to the audio to hear the action!

Drive-Thru Arrest

Police Log For 02/25/10-03/03/10

The Windstorm of 2010 whipped through the town during this week of Police Logs. From the first call on that Thursday night of the storm and through the next 24 hours, the police dealt with a variety of problems in town. The first “Traffic Hazard” complaint came in at 8:14 PM on February 25th. Until 7:59 PM on the 26th, 67 calls were made to the police that pertained solely to the storm. These included fallen trees, down wires, and flooded roads. Police also had to deal with their typical keep-the-town-safe-duties as well. This included an arrest at 1:18 AM on the 26th.

On February 28th, at 9:29 PM, a call was placed to the police about a possible drunk driver. The caller was a fast food drive-thru employee. The driver had apparently ordered his food, pulled up to the window to pay, where the employee could smell the heavy scent of alcohol on the man. Thinking fast on his feet, he told the driver that there was a wait on the food, and asked the driver to pull into a parking spot while waiting. The driver obliged, and the employee promptly called police, who arrived shortly after and arrested the man.

Bethany Pfalzgraf condition improves after Hit and Run, by Underage DWI

Derry-Londonderry Edition of the New Hampshire Union Leader

By Alec O’Meara
Union Leader Correspondent

A Londonderry college student was upgraded from intensive care to good condition at Beth Israel Medical Center today after getting hit by a passing motor vehicle on the Boston College campus early Sunday morning.

Bethany A. Pfalzgraf, 21, suffered serious injuries in the accident, which has been classified as a hit-and-run, said Lieutenant David Wilson of Massachusetts State Police. Platzgraf was walking along St. Thomas Moore Road, a street on the interior of the school campus, when she was struck by a 2002 Toyota sporty utility vehicle, police said.

The vehicle did not stop after the accident, Wilson said.

The vehicle and driver were found a short time after the accident by Boston College Campus Police in a parking lot in the vicinity of where the accident took place, Wilson said. The alleged driver, Benjamin Knott, 18, of Weston, Mass. was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol, reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident where personal injury occurred. Knott is scheduled for arraignment in district court later today, Wilson said. Pfalzgraf was initially transported to Beth Israel Medical Center in Boston where she was initially place in the intensive care unit in the hospital, a hospital spokesman said, but was listed in good condition by mid-day Monday.

Pfalzgraf, a graduate of Londonderry High School, is listed as a member of the Class of 2010 College of Arts and Science in the Boston College student directory. Her listed residence is Rubenstein Hall, 92 Commonwealth Avenue, Chestnut Hill, Mass. Knott is not listed in the school directory. The accident is still under investigation, Wilson said.

According to the Boston Herald who covered the arraignment reported he “blew a 0.18 and 0.20 on a breathalyzer.”  Read the full Boston Herald story by Laura Crimaldi “Boston College senior struck by allegedly drunk teen’s SUV

This isn’t Knott’s first run-in with police over his driving this year. In August, Knott was involved in a boating mishap on Sunapee Lake in New Hampshire.

The New Hampshire Marine Patrol said Knott drove a boat across the water and struck the kayak of a 52-year-old Jamaica Plain man. Police at the time said the kayaker avoided serious injury by plunging underwater to avoid Knott’s boat.

The kayaker surfaced to find debris from his kayak spread across the water, according to police. Police said alcohol was not a factor in the collision.

Knott, who was pulling a water skier, came back and brought the kayaker and the pieces of his kayak back to the shore.
