College Graduate Receives Commission in Marine Corps

Robert Joseph Paradis commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant in USMCRobert Joseph Paradis, son of Joe and Joanne Paradis of Londonderry, graduated cum laude from the University of Maine at Orono on May 9, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Landscape Horticulture.  Following the graduation ceremony, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps.

Paradis was attending U Maine on a 4-year Marine Corps ROTC scholarship, an accomplishment achieved by fewer than 10% of those granted access to the USMC ROTC program.  During his four years in the program, he served as Bravo Company Commanding Officer, Executive Officer, Academics Officer, and Squad Leader.  He attended Officer Candidate School in Quantico VA after his junior year.

Lt. Paradis is a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society.
He was also admitted to the Senior Skull Society at UMaine, which, each year, selects only 10 male students, from among the senior class, who have demonstrated exemplary levels of leadership, community involvement, and academic achievement during their college tenure.

Lt. Paradis, a 2005 graduate of Londonderry High School, will serve on active duty with the Marine Corps for the next four years.  He will next report to Marine Corps Base Quantico in VA, where he will attend The Basic School, a 6-month program which trains and develops new officers to effectively lead Marines under their command.
