More Snow, Followed by Strong Winds in Londonderry

Low pressure will move across the mid Atlantic states and remain south of cape cod as it begins to intensify. It will move northeast this evening and remain east of Nova Scotia. the low will bring a swath of accumulating snow across southern New Hampshire as well as southwestern Maine through this evening.

Look for snow to develop from west to east this morning. The steadiest and heaviest snow will fall from mid morning through the mid afternoon before tapering to light snow and flurries late. At this time storm total accumulations are expected to range between 3 and 6 inches update at 10:36 by NWS between 4 and 8 inches, across the advisory area. Gusty north winds will also increase later this afternoon and continue overnight. This will cause blowing and drifting of the snow.

These strong gusty northerly winds will couple with low temperatures tonight in the single numbers to produce very cold wind chill temperatures in the negative teens.

  • The winter weather advisory is now in effect from 7 am this morning to 7 pm est this evening.
  • Strong winds and very low temperatures will make for bitterly cold wind chill values tonight.

Temperatures will fall into the single numbers and teens during the evening hours and will continue to fall overnight. Winds will continue to pick up out of the north gusting over 30 mph at times. These winds coupled with the very cold temperatures will make for bitterly cold wind chill values that will be below zero during evening celebrations. The wind chill values will then fall to as low as 29 below zero by early Thursday morning.

Be prepared for bitterly cold wind chill values if you are outside for New Year`s Eve celebrations. Dress in layers and keep extra clothing and blankets in the car.
