The most extensive coverage of Londonderry Old Home Day online or in print continues! Thanks to Kathy Morse for scripting the entire Parade and providing it to us for publication. John Conley announced the parade this year, in addition to the information in the script, he had a number of jokes and zingers for the participants. Each Shriners group that came along he lobbied for a Fez.
Did you know? The red fez with a black tassel, the Shrine’s most distinctive symbol, has been handed down through the ages. It derives its name from the place where it was first manufactured – the holy city of Fez, Morocco. The fez was chosen as part of the Shrine’s Arabic (Near East) theme, around which the color and pageantry of the Shrine are developed. Londonderry Old Home Day always has at least 4 Shriners groups in the parade. The funds they earn are used for philanthropic projects like the Shriners Childrens Hospitals.
We shot every unit in the parade, a representative photo is posted here in this story, with the text of the script. Our Londonderry Hometown Online News Darkroom has hundreds of photos, click HERE to view them all! Be sure to use the slideshow feature you can set the speed to fast or slow and enjoy all the images.
