Band Scores Another Invitation to Perform in the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade

By Andy Soucy, Music Director

The LHS Marching Lancers has been invited to participate in the 2011 Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade, one year from this upcoming New Year’s Day, in Pasadena, CA. The Lancers were invited by the 2011 Roses President, Jeffrey Throop, on September 25th at a football game by telephone as the students stood at attention on the field just as they were ready to perform their halftime show. The call went out over the PA system as the 324 members listened intently with excitement.

The Lancers will be one of only fifteen bands and will solely represent all of New England and New York State in this, the 122nd Roses Parade. This will mark the fourth time the Londonderry High School Lancers will have participated in this New Year’s Day tradition, having also participated in 1992, 1997, and 2004.

The Roses Parade is 5.5 miles long and takes 2.5 hours to complete as performers march past one-million spectators live along the route. Television coverage includes every major network to a national audience of over 40 million viewers in this country alone. In addition, the broadcast will also seen in 215 countries and will now include every Province in China for an additional 1.5 billion viewers.
