Disabled I93 Motorist Flees, Tasered Still at Large

Shortly after noon time today’s date Sean McGurk was been taken into custody by the Massachusetts State Police and has been transported to the Newbury Barracks awaiting his arraignment.


At 7:42pm last night Probationary Trooper James Powers of the New Hampshire State Police Troop-B was on patrol in the Town of Salem. While traveling along Interstate 93 South he had pulled over to assist a disabled motorist in a white 1998 Volvo V70.

The Trooper approached 42 year old Sean McGurk of 61 Washington Street, Apartment A in Concord, New Hampshire. During Trooper Powers’ interaction with McGurk, he became suspicious of him. Upon further questioning by Trooper Powers, McGurk attempted to flee. A physical altercation occurred between Trooper Powers and McGurk, during which time Trooper Powers deployed his taser and utilized his pepper spray while attempting to arrest McGurk. McGurk was able to break free from Trooper Powers and flee into the woods.

Within minutes other Troopers as well as Officers from the Salem Police Department arrived and started to track McGurk. The Troopers and Officers followed McGurk’s tracks to a nearby residence where it was discovered that McGurk was able to steal a motor vehicle and flee the area.

The stolen vehicle was located a short time later in the Marshalls department store parking lot at the corner of Route 110 and 495 in Haverhill, Massachusetts. It is believed that McGurk suffered injuries in the escape and may seek medical attention.

Trooper Powers suffered minor injuries; he was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released.

At this time McGurk is still at large. It is believed that McGurk may still be in the Haverhill, Massachusetts area continuing to elude the New Hampshire authorities.

McGurk is described as a white male, 6’2”, 185 lbs, brown hair and blue eyes. See below photo of McGurk. McGurk has a past history of aggression towards law enforcement, and is to be considered dangerous. Please do not approach, and if you locate him, contact authorities immediately.

McGurk is wanted on the charges of Simple Assault, Resisting Arrest and Driving While being Deemed an Habitual Offender. Salem Police also want McGurk on the charge of theft of a motor vehicle.
