Tuesday, September 10th will bring a different kind of educational experience to both the students and staff at Londonderry Middle School. The annual Wellness Day has been a favorite of all for many years and this year will be no exception. Students will enjoy a presentation by Rob Surrette who will produce an incredible piece of “Hero Art” while making a point about a smart choices. There are a variety of speakers and facilitators who are part of the school community or who make a point to join LMS each year to teach a yoga class or a zumba class or discuss and share the joy of hiking, playing tennis or other invigorating activities.
Wellness Day couldn’t take place without the support and help of the staff and community members. The Wellness committee would like to thank Converse for donating the T-shirts for the entire staff and student body; Centrix Bank for donating $250 to assist with the running of the day, helping defray the cost of the guest speakers for the assemblies; Hannaford for donating a gift card to fund the hospitality room for the guest speakers; Kevin Cavanaugh, a LMS faculty member who designed the logo which is printed on the t-shirts; and finally, the many guest speakers, including LMS staff members, who are donating their time to instruct the students in the many aspects of physical and mental wellness.
Wellness day is just one of the many things the Wellness Committee sponsors throughout the year. Other activities include the annual Walk/Run scheduled in October, intramural tennis, golf, snowshoeing and volleyball. These and other activities are made possible through the generosity of many people but also largely through the proceeds the committee receives as a result of the annual Auction. Be sure to add this you your calendar! Finally, this day is partially funded by the proceeds from the LMS annual Wellness Auction which will be held this year on Thursday, December 5th.
