Londonderry Building Fire Cause Determined

On Wednesday, August 28, 2013, at 3:11 PM, the Londonderry Fire Department responded to Emerald Isle Auto Sales located at 214 Rockingham Road for a structure fire. Within minutes, the fire department arrived on the scene to find the front exterior of the building on fire extending into the interior through the windows. The area of bark mulch and shrubs in front of the building was also on fire. All occupants were out of the building.

While mutual aid was requested, Engine 1 advanced the first attack line and was able to keep the fire contained mainly to the exterior of the building. Nine minutes after the initial call, at 3:20 PM, the fire was considered under control.

There were no injuries reported from the fire. Minor fire damage was reported extending into one interior room of the building. Upon conducting an investigation, Chief of Fire Prevention Brian Johnson determined the cause of the fire to be a carelessly discarded smoking material.
