The Community Service Committee of Saint Jude Parish would like to take this opportunity to ask your help in spreading the word about their next bone marrow typing drive. The Drive will be held on Thursday, May 30th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Saint Jude Parish Hall, located 435 Mammoth Road in Londonderry.
The new theme from the Be The Match Registry is “ The cure for blood cancer looks exactly like you” Taking this into consideration, the Community Service Committee of Saint Jude Parish decided to sponsor a bone marrow typing drive with a different style…
Over the course of the past several years sponsoring drives we have been informed of several donors who were typed here in Londonderry, and beyond. For this drive, we have invited 5 bone marrow donors, 4 of which were typed in Londonderry and most live in Town. These donors consist of a fire fighter, police detective, school district employee and a donor who now volunteers her time for the Be The Match Registry.
Our thought is that there are many potential donors out there that do not come forward because they are unsure what a donation is all about. These donors will be able to answer questions from potential donors, share their life saving stories and help convince a donor any way they can. We would also like to invite any other donors that we may not be aware of to come attend and introduce yourself…
In addition to having the donors present, we have invited 14 year old Drew from Amherst. Drew is a recipient of a bone marrow donation which saved his life. Again, we hope having Drew at the drive will help answer questions that potential donors have, and will tug at their heartstrings, to get everyone who attends to be typed.
Due to a change in funding processing, this drive will be typing potential donors who are between 18 and 44 years old. Potential donors who are between 45 and 60 can attend, but we will inform that person how to register online.
Light refreshments available that night and hope, “with your help, we can get a lot more potential donors typed and possibly save more lives,” Curro added.
