Sonshine Soup Kitchen Receives Donation from Halcyon Club

In celebration of its centennial year, Derry’s venerable Halcyon Club has donated $5,000 to the Sonshine Soup Kitchen’s building fund.

Since its 1913 founding on Beaver Lake and subsequent move to its present site on Central St. in the 30s, the Club has always supported community groups through fund-raising activities and benefits.

Gifts to Sonshine Soup Kitchen since its founding in 1990 include financial support, food drives collections and even two large freezers.

Halcyon Club president Louis Wilkes noted that the current Sonshine Soup Kitchen check is one f five $5,000 centennial gifts the other going to the Boys & Girls Club, Salvation Army, The Upper Room and the Wounded Warriors Project.

In accepting the check, Sonshine Soup Kitchen Executive Director Cynthia Dwyer noted, “this is the single largest donation to our ongoing building fund, and the fact that it comes from such wonderful, longtime friends makes it extra special.  Thank you, dear neighbors!”
