The Greater Derry Track Club (GDTC) announced the results of the 18th Annual Boston Prep 16 Mile Road Race, held in Derry, NH on Sunday, January 27, 2013. The race is one of New England’s most popular, and is considered a perfect Boston Marathon training event. The race course, considered “Moderately Challenging”, travels the scenic country roads of Derry and East Derry, NH.
556 runners, including nine from Derry and four from Londonderry, finished the race under the blue skies of a cold and windy New England winter day. 26-year-old Scott McGrath of Andover, MA repeated his 2012 victory as the overall winner. McGrath averaged a 5:40 per mile pace over the 16 mile race length, completing the event in 1:30:38. McGrath improved his 2012 time by 45 seconds. 35-year-old Stephanie Reilly, who represented Ireland in the 2012 Olympic Games 3000 Meter Steeplechase, crushed the women’s course record with a time of 1:36:54. Reilly, from Northbridge, MA, was the first women to ever run a sub 1:40 in this race. Charlie Bemis was the first Derry runner, winning the men’s 50‐60 year old age group with a time of 1:44:10. Kelly Galan, the first Londonderry finisher, crossed the line at 2:02:37.
The GDTC thanks the runners for participating. Proceeds from this race help fund our Kids Summer Fun Run series, a six week series that helps promote a healthy lifestyle for kids in the greater Derry community.
