Public Hearing Regarding Atlantic Herring Regulations

The Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission’s Atlantic Herring Section will hold a meeting on Wednesday, August 8, 2012, at 12:45 PM, to discuss the allowable number of ‘days out’ for commercial herring harvesters. The meeting will be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Old Town, 901 N. Fairfax Street, Alexandria, Virginia. Those of the public who cannot attend the meeting may participate by calling in to 888-394-8197 and entering the code 815277.

The purpose of this call is to review updated 2012 Area 1A catch rates and discuss ‘days out’ for the remainder of the June 1-September 30 season.

Vessels may currently land Atlantic herring from Area 1A from Monday through Thursday, and are prohibited from landing more than 2,000 pounds of Atlantic herring on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
