Boston Children’s Theatre (BCT) is turning the summer of 2012 into one audiences will not soon forget with a production of the multi-Tony nominated musical Miss Saigon. Featuring the talents of 14-year old Anthony Esielionis of Londonderry, NH in the ‘Ensemble,’ Miss Saigon will be performed August 3, 4 and 5 at The Governor’s Academy in Byfield, MA.
No stranger to the stage, Anthony performed last summer in BCT’s production of “Spring Awakening.” He has also appeared in numerous shows with the Palace Theatre Teen Company, including “Godspell,” “Once on this Island,” and “Fame.” With the Palace Professional Theatre, he has performed in “A Christmas Carol” as ‘Tiny Tim,’ and in “Seussical” as ‘JoJo.’
“Miss Saigon is set against the historic background of the Vietnam War, with haunting vocals and memorable visuals,” said BCT Artistic Director Burgess Clark, who is also directing the musical. “The score is incredibly difficult and our students have shown a tremendous amount of dedication and determination in mastering the nuances of this epic musical. It is a thrill for me to direct a piece that provides such a wonderful showcase for these talented students.”
Nominated for 10 Tony Awards, Miss Saigon is based on the opera Madame Butterfly and tells a similarly tragic story of a relationship between an America GI and a Vietnamese girl. Written by Claude-Michel Schonberg and Alain Boublil, with lyrics by Boublil and Richard Maltby, Jr, Miss Saigon is directed by Clark with musical direction by Austin Davy.
Miss Saigon will be performed at The Governor’s Academy, 1 Elm Street, Byfield, MA. Performances are Friday, August 3 at 8 PM; Saturday, August 4 at 2 PM; and Sunday, August 5 at 8 PM. Tickets are $25 and $20 for adults and $15 and $10 for students. Miss Saigon is performed in rotation with BCT’s production of Legally Blonde.
