Local Women’s Softball League Thanks Supporters

Competition. Friendship. Charity.

These are the words that come to mind when describing the Londonderry Women’s Softball League.

For the past 11 years, women have traveled near and far to Londonderry to compete and enjoy a night out on the diamond. You would be hard pressed to find a similar league with as much talent, pride and commitment.  On a weekly basis throughout the summer months, our players head to the fields to run the bases, show their softball prowess and make an attempt to clear the fence. We have players who have played for four decades that run, bend and dive for the ball as if they were still in their 20’s. We also have “young guns” that are fresh off a collegiate diamond that want to continue their love of the game.  Playoffs are fast approaching and as in years past, the competition will be thick and games will be exciting as we crown our 2012 champion.

Each year we celebrate our season end with a banquet at The Yard Restaurant in Manchester. This banquet serves as a time to recognize our league champions as well as a jumping off point to focus and raise money for a selected charity. In years past we have donated to a variety of local and national organizations; Warm Homes, Bella Tucker Fund, New Hampshire Breast Care Association, Camp Sunshine, Sunshine Soup Kitchen & St. Jude’s Food Pantry.  Each spring we also award scholarships to two Londonderry High School Athletes.  To date we have donated almost eight thousand dollars!

As we gear up for our fundraising efforts again, we would like to take a moment to thank all of the local business who have supported us throughout the years as either a team sponsor or as a raffle donor.  Without their generosity we would not be able to support these charities.  We encourage local residents to show support and frequent these businesses and organizations, as they continually support our communities.
