Drunk Driver Trapped for 30 Minutes on I93 at Manchester Londonderry Line

On Sunday, August 12, 2012 at approximately 5:23pm, NH State Police – Troop B Troopers were dispatched to a single vehicle rollover accident northbound on Interstate 93 at the Manchester/Londonderry town line. Initial reports were that the operator was trapped inside the vehicle and that it was possibly on fire.

Upon arrival to the scene Troopers and personnel from the Manchester and Londonderry Fire Departments began to render aid to the individual within the vehicle. After approximately 30 minutes the male subject was retrieved from within the vehicle by Manchester Fire Personnel. The driver of the vehicle suffered minor injuries from the impact and was transported to the Elliot Hospital in Manchester via ambulance.

The driver was identified as Steven Cauthen, age 54, from Windham, New Hampshire. Cauthen was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and released at the hospital. The vehicle, identified as a green Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, was totaled in the collision.

State Police and Manchester Fire personnel were assisted by members of the Londonderry Police Department, Londonderry Fire Department and the Department of Transportation (DOT). The high speed lane of Interstate 93 in the immediate area of mile marker 17.4 was closed for approximately an hour.
