Runners will take their marks this Saturday morning for the Lundgren 5k Road Road, a part of the annual Old Home Day celebration for more than 30 years. The race takes runners past historical landmarks like Mack’s Apples and the Peterson Sugar Shack during the early, cooler hours of the day.
The course begins on Mammoth Road, in front of the historic Lion’s Hall which once served as the Londonderry Town Hall. Runners proceed south on Mammoth to Peabody Row, passing Mack’s Apples orchards and a church. Turning left onto Peabody, runners will pass scenic houses and the town’s only sugar shack before turning onto Buttrick Road, then back to Mammoth for the finish in front of the historic Grange 44.
Registration this year gives entrants an opportunity to win various raffles and prizes, too! Every registered runner is entered into a raffle with over 30 prizes to be awarded immediately following the run. Prizes include a sports massage, gift cards to local restaurants, Salon Bogar or the Londonderry Country Club, and more. Mel’s Funway Park will also be handing out a certificate for free mini golf to every entrant!
Plaques will also be awarded to all male and female winners and runners-up in each of the following age groups: 12 and under, 13-16, 17-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70 and over.
Participants are encouraged to register tonight, August 17, 2012, from 5 PM until 7 PM at the Londonderry High School gym to save on fees. Londonderry residents are $15 and non-residents are $17 if registered tonight. Registration will also take place before the race tomorrow beginning at 6:45 AM at the high school gym. The fee will be $20 for everyone.
Proceeds from the race benefit the Londonderry High School boys and girls cross country and track teams. The Lundgren 5k is, in fact, the teams’ largest fundraiser! Awards and refreshments will be provided by Powerade and Lancer Timing Services.
