Track Club’s Kids Summer Fun Run Results – Week 1

The Greater Derry Track Club’s Kids Summer Fun Run Series did not miss a beat with the move from Derry’s Pinkerton Academy to the Londonderry High School track. Week 1was a cool and overcast early summer evening, perfect for running. A near record turnout of 444 children registered for the event, and they brought 495 pounds of food for donation to the St. Thomas food pantry.

Presented by MVP Health Care; with financial support also provided by Northeast Delta Dental and Derry Medical Center, the series is in its 37th year. GDTC members lead the kids in stretching exercises and provide running tips. The 2-3 year olds run 50 meters, 4-6 year olds run 200 meters, 7-8 year olds run 300 meters, 9-10 year olds run 600 meters, and the 11-13 year olds run the cross country mile. 14 year olds and up run the open mile on the track, which often brings out the local high school elite runners.  GDTC supplies entrants with water, Gatorade, and watermelon. Runners receive weekly participation ribbons, which are supplied by the Derry Recreation Department. Runners completing the series receive medals and T-shirts from GDTC. The Greater Derry Track Club is a non‐profit charitable organization formed in 1978 to promote running related activities and improvements of our community. The Kid’s Summer Fun Run program is one of the 4 events sponsored and conducted by the GDTC. The other events are the oston Prep 16 M (January), Mack’s Run for the Apples Cross Country 5K (August), and Turkey Trot 5K (Thanksgiving Day morning).
