Local 7th Grader Donates Hair for Greater Cause

A local seventh grader gave back to cancer survivors recently by donating her hair to Pantene Beautiful Lengths at an event at the Londonderry High School. But the story doesn’t stop there. The middle schooler, Keira Fitzmaurice, is a cancer survivor herself.

Keira's mom makes the first cut during the donation.

As a first grader, Keira received chemotherapy after the removal of cancer and lost her hair, making due with a variety scarves. Now, as a seventh grader, she donated her hair in front of incoming freshmen at the high school to demonstrate the concept behind the Beautiful Lengths event held each January in Londonderry.

This image was taken after the styling process. Keira poses with Steve Juster, Diana and aides Jenny Thompson and Claire MacLennan.

Keira’s mom made the first cut during the demonstration. Diana, from Salon Steel Magnolias, styled her hair post-cut. Four seniors were aiding at the Lancer Step-Up Day event and helped reassure Keira during the styling process, as well as handing out forms, stickers, and rulers to measure the final cut of hair.
