Vehicles Compete with Moose, Guardrails and Fire

Police Log for 09/16/10 – 09/22/10

At about 7:29 PM on Saturday, September 18, two callers reported an accident on Hovey Road. The accident was reportedly a “vehicle vs. a moose.” According to the police logs, the operator was uninjured, but the vehicle sustained extensive damage. The moose “took off into orchard.” It was not noted if the moose was injured.

On Sunday, September 19, at about 10:38 PM, a caller reported a truck that seemed a bit out of control. In the area of Airport Road and North Perimeter Road, the vehicle was a “pick up truck with flat tires” and was reportedly “crashing into the guardrail as it was operating.” No vehicle description or plate number was available. According to the police logs, however, the “vehicle was located over an embankment in Manchester.” No further information was given.

On September 21, at approximately 7:23 PM, Londonderry Fire received a call via that a boat was on fire. Reportedly, the boat was being towed and was traveling in the area of the Exit 5 on ramp for Interstate 93 northbound. At one point, it was indicated that the owner may not have known the boat was on fire. Shortly after the call came in, Londonderry Fire indicated that both the boat and the truck towing it were on fire near the Manchester city line on 93 north. Manchester units were also responding to the scene. When Londonderry Fire arrived on scene, it was reported that there was a “fully involved vehicle fire 1 mile south of 293 split.” Manchester took command of the emergency, and Londonderry cleared the scene at about 7:38 PM.

Each week, Londonderry News will publish the police logs for your review. We will also pick the most interesting of the stories. If there are any that you found interesting or funny and think they should be in the top three, feel free to contact us.

While we also create original stories from information in the police log and other sources, we offer you nearly the entire Londonderry police blotter! At times we remove small pieces of information like phone numbers or obscene language. When other media outlets only provide their “Selections” from the log, if you select “read more” you select what interests you in Londonderry.

Age: 50
Charges: Driving Under the Influence
Released on PR bail

Seabrook state rep. convicted of reckless driving

SEABROOK — A Republican state representative from Seabrook lost his license for 60 days recently after he was convicted of reckless driving this fall.

Charges against Gary W. Wheaton, 50, of Dearborn Ave., were reduced from driving while intoxicated, according to the Newburyport Daily News.

Wheaton, who is one of four Rockingham District 14 House representatives, was reportedly driving in Londonderry at the time of his arrest, according to the publication.

Wheaton was sentenced Jan. 28 at Derry District Court on charges brought by Londonderry police.

The Newburyport Daily News reported Wheaton refused to take a blood alcohol test, according to the police log, and after being originally charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, he was later released on personal recognizance bail.

Wheaton pleaded guilty to reckless operation, and the original charge of driving while intoxicated was withdrawn.

In addition to a $620 fine, he also lost his license for 60 days, beginning Jan. 28.

Wheaton was one of many Republican candidates elected in November 2010 to the House of Representatives. He is a member of the House Judiciary Committee.
