Manchester-Boston Regional Airport 2008 Economic Impact Study

The aircraft on final over the homes in Londonderry, New Hampshire landing at Manchester-Boston Regional Airport have reduced sound impact over the years.  With the retirement of older aircraft with louder engines and changes to the mix of runway use has changed our daily interaction with the airfield.

The opposite is true when it comes to financial impact!  A recent study by Jacobs Consultancy prepared for the airport and released last month shows a increase in economic impact for this medium hub airport.  In just five years the airport’s economic impact grew 84%.

In a press briefing last week Airport Director Mark Brewer said, “This announcement would not be possible without the continued support of federal, state and local officials, and the laudable efforts of our airlines and other airport tenants. I continue to be impressed with the sense of pride and ownership exhibited by Manchester-Boston Regional Airport staff and extend my sincere thanks for their part in making this airport a special place to work and do business. Lastly, I would like to thank our customers, which totaled nearly four million last year, for their support.”

I strongly disagee with the opening paragraph. It is porpaganda. How can one be expected to believe that the airpot has grown to 4 mil customers and the problem has been diminished? Additionally, Southwest is one of the major carriers that uses MHT as a hub. It is also flying one of the oldest fleet of jets. Noise pollutiion and property devaluation remain a hugh problem in North Londonderry, not “Londonderry” persay. Granted there are a few days a month when it is quite. Please stop this kind of proproganda as it diminishes the problem faced by people who live in , near, around the approcah route. Also, can someone tell me how you launch a hot air ballon in the Airport approach route? I really want to know. Was it as easy as placing a phone call? If so, than lets pick up the phone more often. There are plently of studies; University, FAA on “devaluation of property casused by airport expansions. Read some. Check the website, ther are 37 arrivals from 1 -10:30. this doesn’t include the prop jobs. Looks like a small number, that’s less than half a day. Just for fun say a total of 80 x oh 28 days a month. Noise inpact duration up to 3 minutes each. Get the picture? Oh, before the mindless start chanting. No, it was a small municipal airport when I moved here.

Ah, the effects of economic expansion, can you feel it? No? Listen closely.

I just think people should know the truth.
