At 6:30 this morning with parents and friends looking on the final group heading for China pulled out of the High School Parking lot. This was the largest group with over 100 students boarding the buses. It was clear that some of the kids were sleep walking while they checked in and received their official traveling packet.
One of the buses, duck tapped together became a great talking point for all those riding to New York on that particular bus.

You caught the smiles that this trip is all about! Thanks for the great coverage. Proud Parent
Go to sleep Pollyann! For those that may not know she was at all three send offs. After you do get some sleep, send some pictures of the midnight send-off. Our “staff” could not catch that one.

With gas over $4.25 a gallon who paid for the police and fire escort. Hope they paid back the town for that expense. Free Tibet !!
How much would it cost us if, instead of these outstanding kids getting an escort from the High School to the entrance of 93 two miles down the road, they were out tagging buildings around town?
I believe the children of Londonderry are worth the escort.
Come on Tom, give me a break. Let’s assume that a standard Harley-Davidson Police Motorcycle, operating at 25 MPG, gets 40 MPG. From the High School to the entrance to I-93 is 4 miles. That is 1/10th of a gallon, or 42.5 cents. I’ll pay it. I’ll even round it up to a whole dollar to compensate for any error in my calculation. (The police officer’s time does not count, he was already on duty).
(Mean to write “…operating at 25 MPH, gets 40 MPG.”.
I’ll go even further Paul. Lets say the three trips for each department police and fire department used 3 gallons to drive 12 miles with officers on duty. By my calculations using Tom’s pricing it would have cost the taxpayer a whopping amount of $25.50. I’ll round it off and reimburse the town $26.00.
We’re Ahead!
C’mon Tom, be serious!
This is an opportunity of a life time for our kids and families that spend long hours in preparation to be one of the best bands in the country. This invite to China put Londonderry on the map, which in my opinion show’s that Andy Soucy marching band is second to none, which attracts many families to our school system.
They deserved the send off by a police and fire escort to the highway to show town support.
Many of those families who have kids in the band had many fund raisers to go on this trip and I would hope we would stay positive in supporting the send off.
As a very strong conservative, I honestly belief the monies invested in gas to give our band a town support send-off was well worth it.
Wow, if it really bother you over, just maybe $26.00, I would be happy to donate to the fuel cost if needed.
I doubt very seriously that the small dollar cost will break our town to support our kids.
Just my opinion,
AL
I believe Lancers should be plural, not possessive (Lancer’s).
Ack. It’s my last day of school today. I was goin to take home by flute and piccolo, only to find out that everything in the music wing is absolutely locked down, and the people with the keys are halfway around the world in a communist nation.
I hope they all have a great time in China, though. I wish I was going.
Sorry for jumping on board so late….but WOW I’m blown away by Tom’s comment about the gas prices. I’m a proud mom who has sent 2 kids off to China and has been truly touched by the community support!! I would certainly hope giving these kids an opportunity of a lifetime would outweigh any small cost shared by our town. After all, they are our future.
I am so very proud to be a Lancers Marching Band parent, Londonderry NH resident, and an American!
Our children are the best and are in the best hands with Andy Soucy, Serge Beaulieu, Danielle Lucas, and all the FOM parents who are the best and most dedicated!! I look forward to all the wonderful experiences my William will bring home! A special Thanks to FOM parents Sarita and Mrs. Gorgol for your tender assurances to my obvious anxiousness..Thank you!

I’ be more then happy to pay for the gas that was used for the escort Tom. These students are representing all of us back here in the states and deserve all the fanfare that we can give them.
My daughter is on the trip and she was the only one who had her luggage lost. She has been contacting us saying that no one even seems to care except her chaperone’s. Here she is half way around the world with no clothes. Thank god anything of value was on her carry on and thanks to everyone who is offering her extra clothes. I have tried to contact the tour company and I am trying to contact the airline but so far no luck.
Oh Rick, I’m so sorry to hear about your daughter’s luggage. I wish you the best of luck and hope her luggage is found soon. I have 2 kids over there and that was one of my biggest fears.
Rick,
Did everything pan out okay? Was your daughters luggage ever found?
I have been trying to leave comments on lancernotes.org since the kids left I have never had so many problems no password will work and I can’t get a new one and I cant reregister because my email is already listed Oh well
