North Londonderry 3rd graders make a difference!

This year the North Londonderry third grade students made beautiful bowls “individual works of art” and held an empty bowl night. Students could purchase their bowl for $5 and get an ice cream sundae as well. Additional sundaes were available for $1.50 each. All proceeds from this night will be sent directly to the food pantry at St. Jude’s Church. While hunger is a global problem it is also a local problem and the children are aware that their hard work is benefiting their neighbors right here in Londonderry. Mack’s Ice Cream and Moo”s Place donated all of the ice cream for the event.

The Road to China sneak preview concert

As part of their preparations for the upcoming China Tour 2008, the Londonderry Marching Lancers will be presenting a preview concert in the  Londonderry High School Gym.  Since most of us will not have the opportunity to join them on the trip to Beijing in just a few weeks, why not take a night off and enjoy the music these talented musicians have been memorizing.

  • Thursday, June 5th at 7:00 pm

This special concert is open to all family and friends of the Lancers, as well as to the entire Londonderry community.

There will be a “free will offering” taken at the door which will be donated directly to the Red Cross for the benefit of earthquake victims in China.

Londonderry School District’s eight-year energy conservation effort has earned national recognition for saving the district more than $2.4 million dollars.  The district will receive the Energy Lighthouse Award from Energy Education, Inc. during the School Board meeting Tuesday, June 3, 2008.

Londonderry School District has achieved $2,404,362 in cost savings in just under eight years since forming a strategic alliance with Energy Education, Inc., a national energy conservation company.
“Reaching this savings mark is a significant milestone.  Londonderry School District has achieved success by consistently implementing the people-oriented approach to energy conservation and maintaining productive efforts at all levels of the organization.  The superintendent and school board, along with other administration, faculty and staff members are to be commended for clearly fulfilling their commitment to being good stewards of the taxpayers’ money and the environment,” said Dr. William S. Londonderry Recreation Commission Summer Playground Program

The Summer Playground Program is held each summer at the Town’s elementary schools and operates from July 7th to August 13th. For the 2008 session, the program will be held at Matthew Thornton School.

The program is open to the children of Londonderry who will be entering 1st grade in the upcoming fall up to 14 years old. The children are afforded the opportunity to participate in arts and crafts activities, games and sports, while each day has a special theme. Children are grouped by age and by interest and are supervised in small groups by an experienced staff. Typically there are two field trips planned during each summer.

There is no pre registration for the program, but rather parents may register their children the first day of attendance. Hours of the program are Monday through Friday from 9AM to noon and from 1 PM to 3 PM. Once registered the children may attend as much or as little as they desire.

Cost of the program is $40.00 per child, $50.00 for two children in the same family and $60.00 for three or more children in the same family. Accommodations will be made for any families in financial difficulty.

Daily activities will include arts and crafts, games, sports, playground and break time, and at times special guests. The special guest may include a police officer to talk about safety, a baton twirling show, story teller or bicycle safety. Children are grouped by interests and age.
We usually do 2 field trips a year, one to Canobie Lake Park and one to Chunkies. These trips do involve an additional cost.
